Why Does PTSD affect my dating relationships?

I get very nervous and fearful when dating (also push people away), have had childhood abuse issues
Answer:
It could be that you don't want to give people the chance to hurt you. If you push them away they can't hurt you. You may want to seek out a psychiatrist to help you sort out your feelings and find a way to work through them. It will take a lot of time. There is no quick fix to this but with help you form healthier relationships.
wow...
i have been and am where you are at... i have ptsd too... please im me if you wanna talk ...

Why does paxil wake me up so much?

When I started to take paxil I started feeling more awake for some reason? So much that now I have to take some sleep aid in order for me to fall asleep? Why does it do this?
Answer:
Some anti depressants have a stimulating effect, which can lead to insomnia, others have a sedating effect.

If you've been on Paxil a while and still can't sleep, speak to your prescribing doctor and discuss reducing the dosage, if you're on a high dosage.

Alternatively, ask if you can take the medicine very early in the morning.

Some people do have to take sleeping pills while they're on anti depressants, and you may have to go down this route for a while. Make sure that whichever sleeping pill you opt for is safe to take with the Paxil, though.

Best of luck.
Mild Constipation
sometimes antidepressants will jack you up and give you some energy, some times they will make you very tired, it just depends on you. however if you just started the medication and it is doing that to you, you could have been misdiagnosed. bipolar disorder is often at first diagnosed as depression and then as people take the meds it can put them in a mania. that is something to consider. i hope this helps. if you really don't like it then talk to your doc and see what he has to say and maybe he can put you on something else that you like better.

Why does it seem that sociopaths tend to use their gifts for wrong?..?

They have an amazing ability to read people %26 therefore sense what people need - they are natural leaders %26 have the ability to do great things %26 make positive things happen because people listen to them. Do we only HEAR about the stories of sociopaths that have done terrible things, or do they really usually tend to use their gift for wrong? If so, why?
Answer:
Sociopaths, by definition, lack a conscience. Therefore, the things they do are generally about personal gain or responding to impulses. There is a superficial attachment to people, but thoughts about the greater good do not occur to them. They are unencumbered by attachments to people and therefore can use their skills at observation without considering the relational impact or larger impacts.
Becuase in the news, we only hear bad things. When was the last time you heard a lovely story on the national news??

As a society/media love to focus on the dark and depressing. . . Apparently it's more interesting than all the wonderful things that we see every day . . .

In a film called before sunset bu Richard Linklater a girl says this which I think sums it up
"Well, for example, I was working for this organization that helped villages in Mexico. And their concerns was how to get the pencils sent to the kid in these little country schools. I was not about big revolutionary ideas, it was about pencils! I see the people that do the real work and what's really said, in a way, is that... the people that are the most giving, hard working and capable of making this world better, usually don't have the ego and ambition to be a leader. They don't see the interest in superficial rewards, they don't care if their name ever appear in the press, they actually enjoy the process of helping others, they're in the moment! "

Why does it hurt so much for someone to really get to know me?

Opening up really hurts more than anything. I have never found it pleasant even when falling in love.
Answer:
It sounds to me that you are a very shy person and it's not hurt but anxiety and nervousness that stop you opening up to people
Well you've taken one little step by posting a question on here, although you are anonymous,
I think i suffer from the same thing, well i must do because i've only got one friend.and some people i talk to on here.
Maybe you should try that first,it might give you a little more confidence.
There are plenty of people who would love to get to know you and i think you should relax and just try and be a little more positive.(i'm a fine one to talk aren't i)
Any way i think you'll be fine, just take it one step at a time ok.
Usually people who have these feelings you guys should practice in your bathroom mirror. Think throughtout the day what lies ahead of you. You should practice opening up to your self first.
It hurts because your afraid of getting hurt, but getting hurt is all part of growing up. We all get hurt and heal in our life time, without it we would not grow and learn.

Some hurts, hurt more then others but they all make you stronger.

If you never take chances in life you never really learn to live life to the fullest!
well... you have not found your true love ones... dont worry, when time is right, you'll find it..

Why does it feel like I'm only happy every other day?

I know this is really weird, but no matter what I do during the day, one day I could wake up feeling happy and energized, but then the next morning I will wake up feeling depressed. I don't know if it's just because I'm thinking this way, and so my mind is making this happen. I once thought I was bipolar because a few of my family members are, but then I learned that the happiness or depression would last for months not days. I eat healthy, read my bible, and get enough sleep every day. Why could this be happening?
Answer:
The fact that you come from a family with bipolar is a sure sign that you should go to a therapist when you're having feelings like this.

Bipolar doesn't necessarily mean happy for months and sad for months, you might be a rapid-cycler, where your moods change drastically day to day or even hour by hour.

It's very likely you have bipolar disorder.
it may be developing bipolar if this is happening for a while. Talk to doctor if this condition consists
What about rapid cycling Bipolar? I read that you can cycle many times a day with this so even every other day would seem to me be rapid cycling.
Well, nowhere is it written you're to be happy every day! :)

There's even a Japanese saying, "Happiness? I don't want it." The point being that the harder you try being happy, the more likely you'll miss happy when it lands on you.

Bipolar, aka manic-depression, is not merely being happy and then sad, and back again. The manic phase is truly manic--you're moving a million miles an hour, talking like a buzzing bee, and still you think you have to go faster.

However, you can check with a mental health clinic or go to the ER for a diagnosis. I have little faith in family doctors here, because when my X mentioned she thought she might be showing bipolar (family history again), we had to explain bipolar disorder to the doctor.
Well, you said it yourself. It's only because you're thinking this way that you're feeling this way. You're programming yourself to feel this way. Be happy tomorrow!
Maybe God is trying to work a miracle in your life. Just wait for it and it'll come :D

Try to smile more. You might just fool yourself into being happy. Good luck sweetie.
hormones, talk to doctor
CRAZY CRAZY CRAZY FREAK

Why does everybody think they're bipolar? Is bipolar the wastebasket diagnosis?

Answer:
There are people out there who are truly bipolar, but I do agree with you, there does seem to be a lot of bipolar diagnoses out there recently. It's kinda the new "trendy" diagnosis in mental health, so it seems.
It does seem to be a suspiciously common diagnosis.
You are so right. Don't people know their moods change several times every day depending on what is going on around them?
I think they just want excuses to be able to do whatever they want whenever they want and not have to answer for their bad behavior.
Bipolar, Depression, Manic Depression, etc. -----different names for the same thing.
I don't "think" I'm bipolar. I trust the doctor that said I am.
Nice analogy. We've rationalized general bad behavior into a pet diagnosis by doctors just to start pumping them with behavioral drug for a lifetime.

When are we going to learn these drugs designed to inhibit negative feelings may also be altering reason, judgment, shame, guilt, and remorse.
When I was in my late teens, I saw a counselor after a bad breakup for about 30 minutes (we talked about the breakup and how sad I was). She recommended my university psychologist, so I met with her later that week. After 10 minutes of questions, the psychologist prescribed Wellbutrin and told me I had a mild case of bipolar II. I had no idea what it was at the time.

I am SO glad that those records are destroyed and will not haunt me into my future, as that was the ONLY episode of depression I've ever had and with good reason - my first real relationship had just ended!

Anyhow, I think the fault lies more in the mental health profession than in everyday Joes. Same with ADHD (a real disorder, but severely overdiagnosed)
I prefer to call them severe mood changes

Why does Depression Suck?

i have Severe Gad I tryed alot of ssri and i benzo's. i take xanax %26 its leading to depression

Answer:
See http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris... on page 2 read the page %26 visit the antidepressants and mental-health-abc %26 conquering stress websites.
I'm undiagnosed. But i'm pretty damn sure i've got it.
is yours chemically related?
depression sucks because...well isn't that the point?
Remeron and Effexor are not SSRI's, but yes they antidepressant medications.

See your doctor.

Why does depression hurts so much?

maybe I should be more open I have meen diagions with major depresion and was in the hosptial for it.
Answer:
I have depression.. Overdosed landed me in the hospital.. I know its not fun.. Depression hurts.. because I guess its dealing with your emotions and your brain to feel a certain way because a chemical is imbalanced.
i have severe depression also.
Work through it and get as much help as possible.
it comes from the heart
See the section on depression treatments/resources at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris... on page 2.
I dunno... I've been depressed a lot in the past, but it didn't 'hurt'... it was just chronic blah... numb... don't care... things suck. If it were to hurt then I'd at least have *felt* something.

So hey, you're lucky! %26lt;grin%26gt;

Why does depression hurt so much?

Answer:
Because it's depression. That's like asking, "why does it hurt so much when I stub my toe?"
Lack of serotonin in the brain. I recommend avoiding drug therapies except as a last resort. Get lots of light, exercise and nutrition.
Well...you need to get a grip on yourself and on things. Talk to your friends and family. Maybe you'd find out that you are not the only one who is suffering. Everyone needs to learn to take control and to deal with stress.
deppression is bad it can take u 2 really big risks and it can also make u go krazy..it hurts so much because its not sumthing that u wud like n u try 2 avoid it but sumtimes u cant so u gett caught up
its pretty obvious.because ur hurt and can't get it over??? and people don't call it DEpression if it isn't DEpressing.
if ur depressed then go out w/ ur friends and stuff to relax!
Yes, I am truly sorry for your hurt... and let me offer two approaches - - one, if there is a cause, try and solve your issues that might bemaking problems for you.. and two, there is nobody but you who can change your perspective on things. We all have had "stuff" - most of us have suffered depression as well.. but you can change your focus to the more positive views that you hold... you will always have a biggest problem, just by definition, we all do.. and always will.. so, you have to get past that.. - good luck to you and if you look at your life as an entirety, you will see that you are wasting your time in the black moments.. I do hope this helps and feel bad for your pain..

Why do you think some people get into medieval role playing games?

What if the person is introverted?
Answer:
For one thing this is a very interesting point in history for certain cultures. A lot of us were raised on Arthurian Legends, Grimm Fairy Tales, and Disney, who romanticized the time period.

Fantasy can be a lot of fun and role playing expands the imagination.

It is of course possible and not uncommon for some people to "live" more in fantasies than reality. It seems logical that an introverted person who be more prone to single player video games. But an extrovert could get just as caught up in going to Medieval Fairs, Theme Parties, and actually living the part as much of the time as possible.

So I do not believe that this interest would indicate if a person is an introvert or an extrovert. Nor, could participation in role playing games.
Because they are fun? They are actually quite social activities.
Because some people are fascinated with that era, just like many like to reenact the Civil War. They like history and what it represents and it gives them a chance to be with others who enjoy the same thing.
I am very introverted myself and I never have become interested in role playing games. I prefer reading news articles online, painting, and reading books. Some people who are into role playing games tend to be more on the extroverted side from my experience. An interest in role playing games has more to do with whether you enjoy this sort of thing or not.
The way the West was not!

Most of the movies and television series dealing with the Old West are depicting many things that never were.

Camelot, King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, etc. are the archetypes of fond myths relating to a time that never was.

At least the people who dress up like they are from the Star Trek Enterprise realize they are acting out something that is 100% fictional.

These medieval types can be more delusional at times.

Pseudo-history is more dangerous than sci-fi play acting any day.

Why do you think I feel sad?

I don't seem to have that social able quality that others seem to have and as a result I often feel lonley and unwanted. I dunno when even with my companions I don't know what to say and feel that I am boring. What should I do?
Answer:
I know exactly how you feel (and I would guess that nearly everyone else does as well at some time or another). I feel this way quite a lot. I have been trying over the last few years to work on my own self esteem and confidence levels. Try to look at it this way if you were really boring you wouldn鈥檛 actually have any companions. Think about all the good things about yourself (if you find this difficult ask your friends and family) then every time you feel this way remind yourself about your good points. Expand your horizons; find yourself new and interesting hobbies, that way you will always find something interesting to say. And when in doubt about what to ask people about themselves, everyone likes to think that others are interested. Why not look into actual self esteem classes?
Good luck
Get out there and socialize. The more you practice being around people in social situations, the more comfortable you will feel. Read Dale Carnegie's "How to Win Friends and Influence People". It gives a lot of good tips which should help you.
Clinical depression. See a doctor.
You have never got to prove yourself to anyone else - always be yourself. Dont let other people sap your confidence. If they are negative towards you then they are not worth having around. If 'you' think you are boring, then you will probably come over that way. Get a hobby and get involved with a group of like-minded people.....remember we're all special and those that sometimes look like they have all the confidence in the world are probably the most insecure! They are also usually the loudest!!
lack of self esteem and feelings of worthlessness are all part of depression. it is a self perpetuating spiral...the worse you feel about yourself the more the depression takes hold, the more the depression takes hold the worse you feel about yourself. Speak to your GP about being referred for counselling. You can get help to challenge negative thought patterns. It is a slow process but one that does start to have an impact.
Sounds like depression but it may be you just lack self confidence.if its the latter.then you can work on it...it'll be hard at first but it'll get easier.just be yourself and keep telling yourself that its OK and praise yourself..you can seek professional help for it.especially if its depression.
You should take a confidence-building class. They are great fun, you will meet a lot of nice people and it will teach you to have confidence in yourself so that socialising will become easier.

Sometimes being sociable comes naturally but at other times you have to work at it. Don't sit and fret and be sad, go out there and make a change.

I lacked a lot of confidence when I was younger, and thought I had nothing to offer when in a social situation. But I took a couple of classes, some just evening classes like art, writing good prose etc, one was a confidence building class, and they all helped me to socialise, gain some confidence, and I made some great friends. And once you have more things in your life, the more things you will have to talk about and share with other people

Good luck, sweetheart, I am sure once you decided to make a change, things will improve greatly.
Find a hobby or something you like to do. I suggest running. You will be surprised at how many others started because they were lonely. You will really enjoy it believe me
Let yourself in on the big secret that no-one ever talks about - EVERYONE feels like you do at some time or another, it`s just many more people are better at faking it!

You need to work on your self-confidence and self-esteem, but a big leap forward in the right direction will be to understand that you are not abnormal, odd, or the only one who feels like this. Remind yourself of that next time everyone around you seems brighter and more interesting than you are!

From there, get yourself some counselling to figure out why you are so lacking in confidence. You are gonna be fine, but take the time to work on yourself a little bit. Just like your stomach muscles, your psyche also needs a little effort - and often it`s even more painful!
u can change that. don't u have any bestfriend? it can helps a lot. if u want to feel accepted by others, u have to get to know them better. be happy, friendly n cheerful. then the others will eventually approach u. if u can't find what to say, then at least u can be a good listener to your companions. just ask anything n listen to their stories. a good listener is much better than sweet talker, ;-)
i'm sure you have plenty of social ability. one fairly good rule would be: don't moan or whine too much. this just brings everyone down. be yourself but try and be cheery too. think of something that puts you in a good mood and go out there and socialise!
I dont know how old you are. It could be just typical for your age. You are a shy person. There's nothing wrong with that. A lot of people are. I was also very shy back in junior high and first few years of high school. I just needed some people who had same interests as me to be open with them. When I found those people, I didn't have any trouble making friends. I'm sure you have a loving family. Just enjoy your time with them. Spend time with them, see how you talk to them and try to replicate the same around your friends. If not in a group situation you can at least try and do it on an individual basis. You can even talk about this with a close friend. No body is boring unless they are bored of themselves. If you dont like your own company how would othe rpeople like your company? You have to learn to be comfortable with yourself and like yourself in order for others to enjoy your company. I'm sure if you opened up to these friends, you will not see yourself as boring. take risks. talk to people even when you think you might be making a fool out of yourself.
Everyone has there ups and downs, but if you have more downs than ups or you have a dark cloud hanging over you all the time that you can't shift maybe you are depressed. See you doctor or GP who will be able to help.
Just because you are a quiet person, it does not mean you don't have a lot of good things to say or to bring to others. You have to believe that about yourself. Furthermore, if you have friends to be around that means they see something in you or they would not be your friends. Also, you have to know, some people put on this over happy persona. Just believe in yourself and be true to who you are.
start thinking more of yourself! life is for living and its far too short! start believing in yourself as a person, and learn to love yourself!
Sounds like you may be suffering from social anxiety,CBT may help.
talk to a councellorzz
You should try to talk to people more. The more you do the better you will get.
Read the newspapers every day, and My Yahoo! Reuters: "Oddly enough" and commit some to memory, or write them down on a scrap of paper, and read it when you go to the toilet. Talk about music, sport, girls: ask them what they are going to do both short term and long, Ask if they have any funny stories about their families (have you?).
build up your self estheme they would not want you with them if they think that you are boring :P dont worry im sure you are a very special person and mean a lot to all your mates! :)

Why do you move along?

what gives you hope in life?
Do you like hope b/c i think itz a crock of ****? i believe hope is the unsurity of an outcome so we can wish for the best.
what do you think of this definition?
Answer:
Laughter it's the best median.
What answer are you hoping for ?
hope is diferent to certain people the question is is it beter to have it or not
I think hope is necessary to prevent society from quitting. It is true that hope is basically a wish that things will work out which is a crock. The problem is without it we would all be a bunch of pessimistic cry babies that would never accomplish anything because we can't picture good things happening in the future.
well seeing how i am over the hill (not really but i feel like it sometimes) and i have a son i would have to say my son keeps me moving
I'm sorry, but I believe in hope. It very well may be the unknown and wishes, but sometimes there are situations where that is all we have, and if it is enough to keep us moving along, then at least something does.

I can't help but have hope, best wishes, for anyone in any situation. It's not that I am one of those people who don't get angry or hurt; I sure do. But after all is said and done, I still can't help but have hope for the best, hope there is a best yet to come.
I personally move on because of all the great days I never would have seen had I either killed myself or became a veggi
as a kid. Then, nomatter what your spiritual preferance, theres
always the outcome of NOT "moving on". Usually its out the frying pan, into the fire when it comes to things like this.
You move along as you say cause it is what you must do. No two days are ever alike, they may seem similar, but they are not exactly alike. I hope for the best, accept what I can't change, and change what I can. Keep yourself busy, get a hobby, read a book, let your imagination move your body. I count my blessings, instead of my dollars.
Sounds like you are depressed. Or you may just be pessimistic.
You have to make your life happen. Its not going to come knocking on your door!
Get out there. Lose the attitude. Gain some friends worth having. Get a job. Help around the house. Make someone feel good.
The list is endless. Just start someone where. Do what you like that is good for you.
Hope is just the realization that things WILL be better. Might not happen today, or tomorrow, but it will happen.

Why do we realy hurt each other?

thinking about the pointless and careless shooting on sunday...why?
Answer:
we hurt each other cuz we really do not like ourselves. if you love you, you will love others.
Some people dont have a conscience. Anger %26 bitterness often cloud our judgement.
Because to some people the question is: "Why not?"
It is human nature. It makes people happy.
There are many reasons why people harm others. One is because putting someone down makes you seen better then then. This in not true. Some people also harm other nn order to get recognized. I also, did not know of any shooting on Sunday, but there was a tragic massacre that happened on Monday. If you want information about that shooting, you can look on wickipedia. The information is very up to date, is very detailed.

Why do we mix up between mind and heart, when mind is actually our brain?

When there is some feelings or emotions or state of mind, we tend to think that these feelings come from our heart, but actually these are all matters of brain. Why it happens?
Answer:
That is a great observation! In fact, that was the line of reasoning that led early philosophers such as Aristotle to suggest that the heart is our center of control. In addition, an injury to the heart is almost always fatal, yet many survive with brain injuries.

It does seem odd that we can feel our heart but not our brain. But, there actually are no pain-sensitive nerves in our brain, and so we cannot feel its activity! (Headaches are usually due to pains in the scalp or face.)

One of our brain's standard responses to stress -- the "fight or flight" response -- is to activate what is known as the sympathetic nervous system. If you look closely, when you are stressed not only do you feel a twang at the heart, but your body is undergoing many changes -- the pupils dilate, blood flow to muscles is increased, and your lung capacity is increased. As you can see, the heart rate increase is only a side effect of many changes which are controlled by your brain. In total these changes allow us to reach quickly in case of emergency.
The "Mind" is abstract, while the brain and heart are tangible, although "heart" can be used as an abstract intangible term, the "mind" is always abstract/intangable.
From my reading sometime people get mix up between mind and heart as a tool of thinking or as mind,Egypt ppl believe that the most important inner part of human body is not brain but for them our mind is situated inside heart, that is why they never examine brain. But if u really think of it,our mind is related with heart, for example while we r in the middle of decision making process we tend to relate it with what we like or dislike plus rationality, for me heart is out mind and thinking tool while brain is a place to save memories,
in Islam we believe before learning we should clean our heart becoz if out heart is dirty it'll be hard to receive knowledge.
this is my opinion, but many ppl believe brain is mind n those ppl can not deny the function of heart n how it influences mind in every aspect.
I agree that feelings and emotions are too a large extent activity in the brain. However, the body is a multi-organ system and I don't for one moment believe in ignoring other organs in the development of emotions.
I think there's a confusion here between strictly conventional 'scientific' understandings and other ways of perceiving. It is true that mental activity can be observed in the brain; but it is also true that when we feel something emotionally, whatever thoughts are involved, there are also chemical (hormonal) changes in the body. Also, there is a great deal of metaphoric expression in language, so we talk about the heart, meaning our feelings, and we're not trying to say that the organ which pumps blood around the body is conscious!

Why do we dream and how they are related to future??

Some of the people say these things I am hearing since I was very young
Answer:
our subconscious makes us dream. sometimes they can be related to your job. or stress that you are having. some people believe that they are having premonitions and are seeing into the future. i know that i will have dreams and sometimes it happens. mostly nothing significant but i will dream about a person and i will see them. sometimes your subconscious may know things that you don't know. it is and interesting subject. and really not an exact science. hope this helps
Question for you, wat r u hearing? and wat people?
don't try to make too much out of it. dreaming is good. do you feel you have to interpret them?
I have no idea why we dream but in relation to the future: I have this weird thing where often what i dream becomes reality in the future. Its not always exactly the same as in the dream but sometimes it is. The scary part is that i just feel like it happens too often to be coincidence. Im a reasonable guy and i dont get in to mumbo-jumbo but sometimes its scary.
Dreams to me are very deep invisions because i am sort of a beyond sensory person and get dreams that i usually think are pretty acurate but these days do not get as often even if i did wouldn't remember them which to me is a massive shame cause i loved dreaming but yeah i think they are

Why do we dream and how is what we think in the day related to it?

some times i get all kinds of stupid dreams
idont know why.some times i get a dream about the things which i thought should not happen with me
i want the reason why it happens
Answer:
.the memories of things that you see or hear stays in the back of your brain...and when you sleep, you dream about what you've been exposed to.it could be a dream about what happened 3 years ago...the mind holds a lot of memories!

deja vu (day-ga-voooo)..example- something you dream about comes to life.like you dream about your sister geting a cold, and the next day she gets one..

=]
Chelsea
Dreaming can be thought of as kind of an exhaust pipe to unload the day's thoughts or experiences, or an indicator of your deepest desires or anxieties. It all depends on your personal experiences and mind.
No one knows exactly what dreams are. It all depends on what you believe in. I personally believe that dreams and real life are not connected. Random impulses in the brain are given off and your brain tries to make sense of it all. Things you have thought of recently come up most often because they are fresh in your memory. Many people believe that your dreams stand for something or represent hidden desires and such but if this is true how are we to know what they are anyways. There are tons of books on the meaning behind dreams (I own one myself) and then don't work at all.
the basics are as follows:wehave conscious and unconscious levels of thought-during the day we collect data(conscious thoughts)--then ,at night ,relative to our known experiences we accept or trash that data(unconscious thoughts)--dreaming is that process of assimilation into our beliefs or not---you might think well i'd never kill someone,so why did i in a dream-usually that would mean you want to delete(kill) an idea or perhaps you are afraid someone might be ripping you off in a deal,so your normal thoughts might be don't do it and that is how the idea gets transferred to and by your core belief system(the real you)
There are different dreams at different times some are and esp.some are our conscious and things we need to correct. Since you seem to remember your dreams, write them down when you wake up ,in a note book. then get a book on dreams. you will love it. i get a lot of esp dreams .

Why do the months of April and May have the highest suicide rates?

I always feel slightly down in April and May for no apparent reason, and I recently read a newspaper article that commented that these are the months with the highest suicide rates. Does anyone know a scientific reason for this? One website (http://www.myselfhelp.com/news/newslette... speculated on a few potential ideas, but are have there been any official studies that offer more than speculation?
Answer:
No one is sure why this occurs, but scientists theorize that it has something to do with sunlight and how it affects hormones. It is well known that the shorter days of winter are associated with depression, which is called Seasonal Affective Disorder. It is thought that perhaps when spring returns people start to feel more energetic and this enables them to carry through on suicide plans that they were previously too depressed to carry out.
I'm not sure about April and May, but I know that across the country, January is usually when the most suicides occur because of the holidays and people get down in the dumps. With New Year's, some people drink and feel hopeless. They see only misery in their future for the new year. It is very unfortunate. Maybe high-school-aged kids commit suicide more often in April and May because of the stress that comes with the schoolyear coming to a close. The pressure is usually turned up on the students toward the end of the year, and teachers jam homework down students' throats to hurry and get end-of-the-year grades in. Just a thought, as I've never heard April and May being referred to as the highest suicidal rate months. Anyway, hope this helps a little bit! ;-)
from my knowledge the highest suicide rates occur during the winter. because of lack of family during the holidays and the cold.

Why do the depressed people in the Cymbalta commercials always look so dirty?

until they are treated with Cymbalta?
Answer:
This is a marketing gimmick. By showing a dirty, sad person transform into a cleaner, happier person is supposed to reflect the life altering effects of their drug that they are trying to sell you.
I don't know... call Cymbalta and ask.
Never noticed it... but then again, I don't think I've ever seen any Cymbalta commercials.
I never noticed that, but it could be because sometimes you're too depressed to bother showering on a regular basis. It seems like too much effort and pointless. Or they could just be trying to make life look that much better on Cymbalta. Who knows. The advertising business can be ridiculous.
I don't think they look dirty. When people are depressed, they sometimes lack the energy to get out of bed, shower, dress, keep themselves looking presentable. It's the makers of Cymbalta's way of saying "hey our stuff will make you better" yeah well I've been on it for a year and it sucks.

Why do some steroid based treatments for bipolar disorder cause weight gain.?

A good frends daughter has bipolar but the extra weight gain is most upsetting for her
Answer:
Steroids cause weight gain. That is why athletes take them-they help build muscle
Mine did. She can try a different medicine.
Steroids are renowned for causing severe weight gain. If the weight gain is irritating her disorder than she is going to have to speak to her doctors about changing to a different medication, that isn't steroid based
If this is one of the first medications she has tried, she could see if another without weight gain as a side effect works for her. My doctor knew to keep me off anything that would make me gain weight, but I'm still happily stablized. Ultimately, her mental health is more important, but significant weight gain can also be detrimental mentally an physically.
All steroids tend to produce some weight gain. Part of this is fluid retention, part is increased appetite and part effects on muscle and fat metabolism.

I must say I have never seen MD treated with steroids. They can certainly affect the disease, but my understanding was they could sometimes uncover or precipitate it!
I don't know why they do but i'm on steriods for Addisons disease, something I will have for life so i will be on steriods for life. My consultant said that I wouldn't gain any weight but i put on 3st in 3 months. I was 8st and i'm now 12st8. Steriods do increase appetite and they will make you gain but if you eat healthly you can combat it. It is upsetting but it does ease off and you can lose the weight. I wish your friends daughter all the best. and I hope she realises she is beatuiful regardless of her size.
not sure why but all steriods make people gain weight. You usually also gain muscle which is heavier then fat, Unfortunately there is not much that can be done about this one

Why do some ppl act like cutting themself is a durg?

hit me up i need to know this,
Answer:
Basically because it has the same effect as a drug. When the body is cut, or hurt in any way, the brain signals production of a natural pain-killing enzyme that is sent through the body. Pain killers, or pain reducers effect nerves and the pain receptors in the brain. It alters the brain's ability to recognize pain just the same as any other pain killer/reducer.

This can make the person feel less depressed, angry, scared... whatever. They feel a dulling or calmness in relation to the natural enzyme dimming the pain centers.
Because the self-destructive behavior (e.g., cutting) is addictive in much the same way that drugs are addictive.
It is a release. Some people get high to release their emotions. Others cut themselves to relieve the tension. It's a way for control when that person doesn't have control over he rest of their life. The same could be said for some people with bulimia.
When a person cuts themselves, endomorphins are released that calm the person down and make them feel better. The behavior becomes addictive because people seek that calming and release of endomorphorins.

So, everytime a cutter gets upsets, the act of cutting calms them down.

Why do some ppl (like me) always live in sadness...no matter how hard i try?

i am always gripped with sadness...my mother had died when i was 10...is that the reason for this to happen...i have always been very lonely since then...pls help me!!
Answer:
I'm like that too. Maybe we're just more sensitive, pessimistic or maybe we have more pain than we can handle. Or maybe it's clinical depression. Have you ever been evaluated for that? There are medications that could help you. I'm sure that your mother death has a lot to do with your sadness, so you should definitely look into long-term therapy. Good luck and i hope you find happiness someday.
You are depressed. Why? possibly a chemical imbalance, but you should see someone, medication may help.
Who knows... life is just evil like that.
How well.. sad.. :0(
I am sure your mother is looking down on you from heaven hoping you will find happiness. It's ok to live happily ever after. Go ahead, find happiness. She would love to see that. :0D
You might be chemically imbalanced. Psychiatrists can perscribe something that could help.

All the best to you :
It could very well be. I don't know how old you are now (how long ago she died). It's a shame that you are so sad. Have you ever had a counselor to talk to? Or a close friend?
Maybe that's what you need; someone to talk to that you can trust. It would probably help you a lot.
Try to get some help so you can enjoy life. God Bless You.
Because they're not being present.
Sadness is all some people know. Some people don't know how to handle happiness and become uncomfortable when there are several days in a row of happiness (like me). I'm sure your mother's death during your childhood is a big contributor, and maybe those years of sadness have changed the chemical pathways in your brain.

Why do some people wear aluminum foil hats?

Answer:
It blocks the implant transmissions.
Also blocks people from making you do things or reading your mind.
But the jokes on them, tin foil is the only thing proven to work.
Because they are cool remember the Pepsi can and Beer Can crocheted hats there making a comeback I knew saving mine would pay off some day
Because they contain special microchips which teach them how to spell words like aluminium.
So the aliens can't read our thoughts.
To keep the crazy in :)
so the aliens don't get in their brains, dur.

Why do some people think thats ADD(Attentiom-deficiet disorder) doesn't really exist?

Answer:
People really upset me when people say this. My son is ADHD. These people have never had to live with one. They hardly sleep, always into something, Anger over thing they can't do. People thing they are just trouble makers. They do not know how hard these kids try. I was one of those parents who was everyday at the kitchen table doing homework with him. I never gave
up. We had alot of rough times. The day he got his diploma was the happiest day of my life. Yes he did have medication, we tried severial different ones. It would work for awhile then quit. So any parent out there there is ADHD and never give up. I have found out over the years These kids are very smart, Its just that their brain works so fast, These kids can't keep up with it. These kids have to have alot of one and one school work. They have to have the same routine. I am sorry for going on like this, This is a sore subject with me. My son is 25 now. I am really proud of him. Everything he has got out life he struggled but he did it.
I think that ADD doesn't exist. I honestly believe that parents took the time to nuture and exercise their children 50 years ago, and over active kids became football stars. Now overactive kids become overly medicated, over weight video game players. Learn to channel your children's energy and you will find how much less "over active" they are.
Because it's used to identify cases of 'lack of dicipline' more that cases of ADD.
Probably because a lot of people use that as an excuse to say why they act so darn crazy or not paying attention or wanting to move around all the time... But it does it exist and people who really have them, you can tell because they needs their medicine. it's a big difference!
I think part of the problem is that once everyone knew what ADD and ADHD were as well as the medications parents or doctors would just want to calm their kids down too even if they were just normal kids with a lot of energy. Since ritalin and other drugs are way overprescribed these days, it seems to downplay legitimate cases of ADD.
Because it's overdiagnosed. Kids are often hyperactive with short attention spans, but that's normal. Parents and teachers use an ADD diagnosis and medication to drug them into submission instead of going through the more difficult process of teaching them to behave. That means the few kids who genuinely have ADD get lumped in with the majority who are just energetic, curious kids with lazy, preoccupied parents.
They think that because they think the child is just being a bad kid that won;t listen or mind,,,,doctors now know that alot of this is add and with medicines and a therapist they can live a normal nice life but without being diagnosed they just think the kid is a brat and unruly and that is far from the Truth kids cannot help what they have mentally,,,,,lol
I do believe it exist. But not to the scale that everyone say. I believe it a cop out for the parents and the kids. I believe that people are to quick to medicate there kids because they are a little hyper. There needs to be more testing on the kids beofer they are medicated and diagnosed with ADD.
parents need to start disaplening there kids better and take more responsibility for there kids actions.
As a special education teacher I would say it is the most overprescribed problem in the US. I would say only 15% of my students that are diagnosed actually have ADHD.

People get sceptical of it when everyone seems to have the diagnosis when alot of times it is dicipline and parenting

Why do some people stutter?...?

i do stutter.. and i hate it. can you please help me.
Answer:
Stuttering can be caused by several things including genetics. It runs in our family. Check out this page http://www.stutteringhelp.org/default.as... Several of my uncles and cousins got help overcoming their stuttering by using "Self Therapy for the Stutterer" by The Stuttering Foundation.
t-t-t- today juniour.
nah my mate used to stutter and he just got over it. ithink its just a phase.
Depending on how severe of a stutter you have, you might consider speech therapy.

I sometimes stutter myself. It doesn't happen very often, but when it does, it can be a real pain.
The latest research is indicating that stuttering has a much larger neurological and genetic role than previously thought. See link.

You may wish to join a local stuttering support group to feel more connected with other people who stutter and share strategies for coping. Good luck.

Why do some people snap out of depression faster than others?

Answer:
It has to due with your seritonin level. If that (being a medical reason for depression) than you probably need medication. However if it is a recent problem in someones life and has nothing to due with seritonin you would probably snap out of it more quickly
Just snap out of it? Only a few things can do that. Damn good meds, a personality disorder like borderline personality that involves rapidly changing moods, some sort of mood disorder like bipolar disorder or a severe form of pms. Another thing that could be the cause of a seemingly overnight uplift is a decision to commit suicide, the depressed person was never really depressed or faking feeling better. Getting out of depression is a gradual process. People rarely just snap out of it.
For some people they never snap out of it.
For some it is a life time illness.
For others it might be a situation thing that once they are done grieving they get balanced in life.
Because they make up their minds to do so, rather than wallow in self pity.
because there are different causes for depression.

There is clinical depression and there is situational depression. You would expect someone who's family member died to be depressed. This is situational often and they will deal with their grief and start to return to normal.

For others it is a severe chemical imbalance and therefore they may never "bounce back" or "snap" out of it.

Yes there are people who wallow in their depression rather than seek treatment and get better, there are others that medications don't seem to work...there are people who are clinically depressed and unable to function. There are others who have situational, stress induced, medication induced, etc depression. There's no one good answer for you except that people are different and therefore respond differently to situations, medications and moods.

Why do some people like me, have so much trouble with language?

i try to talk to myself.. and i can't make any sense. i can't even come up with good sentences. But i see everyone else, or at least most people besides me, and they are sooo good at speaking. I think i was born with it.. or some damage happened when i got hit in the head in a bus crash. But anyways, it's funny because

i do art and i'm creative, i have alot of ideas about art and making up fun stories.. just not good at speaking or writing. and i'm 27 and i talk like worse than a 10 year old kid.
Answer:
Hey. Hopefully I can help.

You might have an SLI, a specific language impairment. About six percent of the population has some type of SLI, so don't feel alone. An SLI does not in anyway relate to your intelligence, or in your case, your creativity. A variety of components of oral language may be affected by SLI, including grammatical and syntactic development (e.g., correct verb tense, word order and sentence structure), semantic development (e.g., vocabulary knowledge) and phonological development (e.g., phonological awareness, or awareness of sounds in spoken language). If you think any of this relates to you, then i STRONGLY, STRONGLY suggest that you see a speech impairment pathologist. I know how hard this must be for you, but I know that if you seek help you'll build a better understanding of yourself and of your language.

Why do some people get mad for no reason & find it hard to control their temper & forgive others?

it seems that some people are more prone to initiating 'verbal abuse' matches with other people.the reason why i'm asking this is that i just experienced that done to me today %26 it didn't feel good at all.one of my best friends got mad at me %26 upto now i still don't know what the real reason is.all i can think of is either she not getting the place she wanted to sit in class(so venting her frusteration on me) or my 'flinging a college notice onto her desk after she said 'ignore her' to my other friend'.either way, both of these ARE petty reasons to get mad at a best friend so easily.(maybe it's because she's known for her toughness, most of the guys are intimidated by her as well-the usual rare tomboy, lol)anyway,i apologised to her(after 2 hours of boredom %26 not knowing why 'i'm' apologising-hate holding grudges)she's ok with me %26 all is fine now.
why is it so hard for some people to keep a grip on their temper when things aren't going well %26 esp. to admit they're wrong %26 apologise?
Answer:
there are all types of people in this world who have different types of personalitys. what means alot to one person may not matter that much to another.

would your garden look as good if all the flowers were the same type and colour?

accept that some people have a fiesty personality and they will get involved in situations at a higher level. even if you dont agree with what they are saying, you must listen and then calmly let the conversation progress. do not challenge that person otherwise you will get an arguement, just simply listen and let it flow until you can move onto a different topic.

my husband and i used to argue because we are both strong characters, but now instead of standing there argueing about what is right, we let it drop. you have to accept that this girl is fiesty and will challenge your ideas or conversation so if you want to be friends, you will just have to accept this. if not, then you should make new friends and not see this person anymore.
well screw it. there are more important things to do.
i personally can't stand people with short tempers.

Why do some people avoid dealing with their problems?

Answer:
Fear.
Because we can come on ByeDr.com and deal with everyone else's problems.
avoidance, deniel, they rather not deal with their problesm
Some ppl think that if they ignore them, that the problem will go away.
Because some people think ignoring the problem is better than the confrontation or easier than taking the time to fix the problem. When in reality the underlying stress not dealing with the problem causes is worse than dealing with the problem and getting it off your shoulders.
Sometimes life has been really hard to them and for self preservation they choose to not let things get to them anymore! sometimes that good, but can be bad , when its something that really important!
Because they are so wrapped up in other people's lives and problems that they ignore their own. Kind of like avoiding the large elephant in the living room by walking around it instead of saying, "Hey! I have an elephant in my living room! Now how do I get it out of here?"
I agree with michelle about fear. Afraid to admit they admit they have a problem in case they cant do anything about it.But you cant let your fear beat you. When you face your problems before its gets worse. You will forget fear and the reward and peace of mind will so great.
Sometimes people want to change, but don't know how to deal their "own" problems. Maybe, Y!A is a good place to start. You can ask questions and get opinions. I find it useful to absorb only the information I feel is helpful, sometimes the people on Y!A are rude! If you feel like you are being attacked, just remember you are not the only one with problems. Nobody is perfect!
For me..ignnorance, but i know for many it's just plain fear.
We don't want to face our problems. We'd rather help others. We are afraid.
4 common reasons:

1) the problem doesn't bother them, only other people - this answer is the hardest for people who "see" the problem and who want to "help" the afflicted person to accept

2) there is some incentive (reward) to continue to avoid a problem that is greater than the pain of the problem. (Some addicts continue to use because the pleasure of the drug exceeds the pain of the consequences)

3) denial- hope that it will go away on its own

4) powerlessness -the person says to himself "I don't have what it takes to fix this."
Because reality is too much to handle at times. I know I'd much rather avoid at times than deal with the pain.

Why do psychologists prescribe anti depressants so much for Generalized Anxiety Disorder?

My psych just kept switching me from one to the next ( Paxil, Prozac, Zoloft, and Back to Paxil) even though I explained to her that it was making me worse and increasing frequency and level of my panic attacks and making me reckless. Are they really controlled by these pharmaceutical manufacturers?
Answer:
anti depressants are for depressed clients..
if u have anxiety, then
anxiolytics are best for you

if he isnt prescribing any, you should ask him to consider anti-anxiety drugs like
diazepam (Valium);
Lorazepam
Xanax (a brand name)
and so others..(the generic name ends in -pam most of the time)

if you wish to discontinue the meds u currently take, taper the dose and dont discontinue it right away..you might develop withdrawal symptoms if u have been taking it for a long time already..

think of ways to cope with the anxiety...
reflect back on what u did before to counter the anxiety..
some people do guided imagery (where they close their eyes, relax and think of relaxing thoughts)
some do what they think is helpful.

think of ways that helps u...it may be better than depending on drugs..even if its for anxiety..

thanks
Most anti-depressants also work to help alleviate anxiety. I'm on Cipralex and it seems to be working well.
I have Depression and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. I was told that Prozac also helps with anxiety. It helped with my depression, but not the anxiety. I am now taking an anti-depressant and anxiety medication. I'm still trying to find an anxiety medication that helps me. Some of them can be addictive (especially Xanax), and I am trying to avoid those types.

Also, are you seeing a Psychologist or a Psychiatrist? Psychiatrists are the ones with the training about medications, and are the only ones that can prescribe the medications. A Psychologist is generally used for therapy only.

Whatever the case, it sounds as if your doctor is not listening to you. If you don't get the care you need, I would suggest seeing someone else. Also, some anti-depressants can cause anxiety, and anxiety medications can cause depression. I have no idea why they work that way, but they do. :(
It's true that many anti-depressants can be very effective against anxiety. However, it doesn't sound like they're helping you. Do you suffer from depression as well as anxiety? If so, the challenge lies in finding the right mix to treat both the depression and the anxiety. Too-high doses of antidepressants in some people can certainly cause anxiety.

Without knowing your full diagnosis, it's kind of hard to know where to go from here. Has your doctor tried you on any anxiolytics such as ativan or klonopin or xanax? If you're both anxious and depressed, it might work to have you on both an SSRI and an anxiolytic.

It sounds like you're really frustrated with your doctor, if you think her treatment plan is being directed by big pharma. I'd suggest consulting another doctor.

Good luck!
Because malpractice insurance only protects healthcare professionals who follow the rules set up by the pharmaceutical companies. It is their only option.

Working outside of the medical/pharmaceutical field gives you access to stress and anxiety reducing yoga, all natural herbal supplements that do help and are not as harmful in the long run, as well as mental and emotional reprogramming you can do yourself for free:

http://www.yogajournal.com
http://www.mynsp.com/carole/products/gui... and http://www.mynsp.com/carole/products/gui...
http://www.amazon.com/you-can-heal-your-...

If you are taking the medication, you should speak to your healthcare professional before changing or adding to your health care program - that included herbs and supplements.

Peace!
"Are they really controlled by these pharmaceutical manufacturers?"

I'd say the answer is Yes. -_- I've been struggling with a local "mental health" system and trying to avoid the HMO crap for 15+ years, working and busting my hump to get better from depression and post-traumatic stress issues.

And it seems like with each year the local system *invents* new ways to twist and pervert what *should be* the science of psychology to a) keep people dumb, docile and dependent, or conversely b) shut them out of the system and deny them any chance at getting in to see a doctor and get on meds that work. This year, the local Crisis Line just *refuses* to do its job like it did for me last year, so now it's a "choice" between a 3-6 month waiting period and *maybe* I *might* get the almighty treat of seeing some "doctor" for 5 damn paltry minutes who *doesn't even speak my language* here. Or I can go to the ER and get *locked up* like a criminal in the Psych Ward and have all my human rights stripped away while the cheap bastids drug me into a coma.

I swear, both me and my current therapist have made so many, *so many* phone calls that either haven't been returned for days or when they are returned, the level of "hoops to jump through" or denial of service is just absurd. It's like the local system is trying to *force* folks through the cracks *on purpose*. It's like they *want to* goad as many people into attempting suicide or worse as possible, so the HMOs (and the rightwads who own them all) have *an excuse* to lock us ALL up again, regardless of any real potential to get better.

If I weren't dirt poor, destitute really...I'd sue. God help me for saying this, because suing would do *so* much harm right now.I might end up with enough money out of it to get myself better, but anywhere from hundreds to thousands of people in my local commuinty would be denied care utterly as the local system would just fold up and *walk away* and not get replaced *at all*. But yeah, in a rational world, I'd be suing folks for negligence and malpractice--you just *don't* see this kind of neglect and denial of service and game-playing on other legitimate medical issues like cancer, diabetes or heart disease.

But I digress. Sorry to rant on so. This is really a raw-nerve topic with me...right now I am so frustrated and fed up with having these problems and with NOBODY caring at all and wanting me to get better. And yet...I have to contain things if I don't want to be imprisoned without Due Process. If I don't want to be erased.

I just wanted to let you know you aren't alone in this, and in fact, there are some parts of the country, at least here in the United States, where the situation has become *so* political and *so driven* by HMO greed and bigotry that *plenty* of good people are about to *snap* on this one.

Take care and stay safe. -_-
because anxiety and depression are most ofte caused by
problems with brain chemistry.

There are behavior changes that you can work on yourself.
What you think, you are. Change the things in your head that make you anxious. You can find some therapist that can work with you concering that.. You need to change what your inner voice tells you.
Well...interesting you should ask, "are they controlled by the drug manufacturers?". I'm starting to think the answer is yes, particularly after reading a letter of resignation written by a psychiatrist. He resigned from being a member of the APA (American Psychiatric Association) after 30 years because he said the APA was in bed with the drug companies involving such things as "rewarding the APA and mental health doctors with thousands of dollars for prescribing certain medicines even though alternatives may be available". You can see this website for this psychiatrists letter of resignation (in full):

http://groups.msn.com/psychbusters/apsyc...
(the letter is in 2 parts, the 2nd part is on the next page).

Here's another website that goes into this topic in hopes of helping anyone who's truly mentally ill:

http://endtopsych.ebloggy.com/

This last website I've listed talks about something that supports the psychiatist who reisgned, when he said that the other reason he was resigning was because the DSM IV (the diagnostic manual for mental illnesses) was full of inaccuracies. This DSM IV inaccuracy subject is explained better by this Mayo Clinic website which explains "how" they decide who's normal %26 who's not:

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/mental-...

If you look at this Mayo clinic article, they say they use "personal opinions to decide who's considered normal, and these opinions can change with the current social %26 cultural trends". This article poses questions in one's mind like, "How can you decide who's normal based on personal opinions, %26 social trends, and NOT science?" If they can use mere "opinions, which change with social trends", they can easily be guilty of being in bed with the drug companies.

Due to finding out they use "opinions %26 not science" to decide who's normal, I'm another person who decided to turn their back on psychiarty in some fashion. When I found this out in 1979, I refused to become a psychologist as I'd planned because I refused to participate in judging others based on a "mere" opinion. This never seemed right to me. I think anyone in the mental health field has either not realized what they've done, or they have no heart--people with no heart will allow drug companies to pay them off because they're in it for the money.
Boy can I relate to your problem. Had to go to the doctors for anxiety and panic attacks. The very first thing he per scribed was Paxil, I tried it for almost 2 weeks and was getting worse by the hour. I felt like I was on some kind of speed. I tried to explain that I wasn't depressed so why an anti depressant? To make a long story short I quit the Paxil with my docs knowledge and feel so much better. I'm trying to deal with the anxiety without meds.
Did you give your pills time to work? I'm on Lexapro and I see a therapist every week. I am doing so much better! I wish you luck. Insurance covers therapy so seek into it and maybe you can be off the drugs.
My mum has panic disorder and has never been on anti depressants but has been on a type of Epilepsy medication for the last 10 years, although she does not have epilepsy, she has had her panic attacks under control the whole time she has been on this medication.

Why do psychiatrists like to torture people?

Answer:
This is why I sometimes doubt myself going to school for this reason.
There are a lot of horrible psychiatrist out there, who have no idea what they are talking about, and they just suggest medication.
But for all the bad ones, there are amazing ones who can really help you out. Like I am going to school to help with childhood illness, and adolescent grief because in my life I was ill, and i lost many people and I understand.
But if you feel this negatively about your psychiatrists i just think you should change doctors. Its not fair to you to have to feel that way.
I hope you feel better.
i dont know, some maybe, but its damn fun to mess with them, make them think your uber crazy
they get paid for it
That is too general a statement. If a person is having difficulty with their psychiatrist for one reason or another, then they should change Drs.
Because they think they have all the power and like to make ppl feel even crazier than they are :( for example " oh do hear voices in your head talking to you? or do you think someone is out to get you.."

About Psychiatry see this video:

Understanding Psychiatry:

"Psychiatry is not the same as neurology; whereas neurology treats diseases that have their aetiology or their physiology known and proven by medical science, psychiatry treats mental conditions where aetiology and physiology are both unknown and unproven.”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/mental_dise...

Psychiatry is not the same as Psychology; whereas Psychology studies the cognitive and subconscious mental processes of man with no regard towards physiology; Psychiatry studies theoretical mental disorder with the assumption that those disorders are based on physiological deficiencies.

Psychology develops therapies aimed to improve mans cognitive processes; whereas Psychiatry develops physiological treatments to treat theoretical physiological deficiencies where aetiology and physiology are both unknown and unproven.

The unscientific assumption that mental disorders are based on physiological deficiencies creates an arbitrary that makes any further research done by Psychiatry unscientific. You can’t base science on assumptions and arbitraries.

Psychiatry treats theoretical mental disorders with theoretical physiological treatments.

Examples of Psychiatric theoretical mental disorders:
Premenstrual dysphonic disorder (PMDD) is a severe form of premenstrual syndrome.
Gender identity disorder: If you are gay you have this disorder.
Female orgasmic disorder: Many types of conditions are under this code.
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders published by the American Psychiatric Association. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/dsm-iv_code...
As you see, these mental disorders are actually unscientific arbitraries based solely on opinion.

Examples of Psychiatric theoretical physiological treatments:
1st Example
Electroconvulsive therapy is a barbaric treatment where brain damage is induced into the patient by passing 70 to 200 volts of electricity through your brain. The electro shock and the heat further produce more brain damage by the effect decomposition and toxicity of dead brain cells. The only benefit of Electroconvulsive therapy is that it produces memory loss and amnesia. So the patient forgets its problems. Electroconvulsive therapy has caused death, coma and disabilities on patients.

“About 100,000 people in the USA undergo ECT every year.”
“The most commonly accepted theory is that ECT's mechanism of action is similar to that of antidepressant drugs and involves neurotransmitters, in particular dopaminergic, serotoninergic and noradrenergic systems.”
Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/electroconv...

2nd Example:
Lobotomy is another barbaric treatment developed by Psychiatry in the name of mental health. In this procedure brain damage is induced into the patient by cutting the connections to and from the prefrontal cortex or simply destroying it.
“Even lobotomy's proponents admitted that only one third of the operated patients would improve, while one-third remained the same, and one-third got worst (25 to 30 % is the proportion of spontaneous improvement in many kinds of mental diseases! Thus, a large proportion of the operated patients could have recovered without the lobotomy).

3rd Example:
The chemical imbalance theory, this theory alleges that serotonin deficiency in the brain causes depression. The following video explains this theory.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wr9vtdueu...

But this theory is not based in science and experts disagree:

“I spent the first several years of my career doing full-time research on brain serotonin metabolism, but I never saw any convincing evidence that any psychiatric disorder, including depression, results from a deficiency of brain serotonin. In fact, we cannot measure brain serotonin levels in living human beings so there is no way to test this theory. Some neuroscientists would question whether the theory is even viable, since the brain does not function in this way, as a hydraulic system”
Stanford psychiatrist David Burns, winner of the A.E. Bennett Award given by the Society for Biological Psychiatry for his research on serotonin metabolism, when asked about the scientific status of the serotonin theory in 2003.

“Although it is often stated with great confidence that depressed people have a serotonin or norepinephrine deficiency, the evidence actually contradicts these claims”
Professor Emeritus of Neuroscience Elliot Valenstein

“Indeed, no abnormality of serotonin in depression has ever been demonstrated”
Psychiatrist David Healy, former secretary of the British Association for Psychopharmacology and historian of the SSRIs, in Let Them Eat Prozac (2004).

“A sugar pill was more effective than either St. John’s Wort or the antidepressant Zoloft in providing relief to severely depressed patients, according to a new study that is unlikely to end the debate about the role of the popular supplement in treating the disorder.”
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3076831/...

“…I wrote that Prozac was no more, and perhaps less, effective in treating major depression than prior medications…. I argued that the theories of brain functioning that led to the development of Prozac must be wrong or incomplete”
Brown University psychiatrist Peter Kramer, author of Listening to Prozac, which is often credited with popularizing SSRIs, in a clarifying letter to the New York Times in 2002.

“Some have argued that depression may be due to a deficiency of NE [norepinephrine] or 5-HT [serotonin] because the enhancement of noradrenergicnor serotonergic neurotransmission improves the symptoms of depression. However, this is akin to saying that because a rash on one’s arm improves with the use of a steroid cream; the rash must be due to a steroid deficiency”
Psychiatrists Pedro Delgado and Francisco Moreno, in “Role of Norepinephrine in Depression,” published in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry in 2000.

We must be able to differentiate real scientific research against special interest research. The fact is that the chemical imbalance theory is unfounded because:
1) A connection of ‘emotional states’ and neurotransmission levels have not been established.
2) It is impossible to measure the serotonin levels in living human beings.
3) There is no evidence that brain cells produce and then reabsorb serotonin.

In the following video two college professors explain exactly what I’m saying in Fox News: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbtqjsfmp...

We must understand that psychiatric drugs are a multi billion dollars industry, and that careful marketing campaigns are created to push these drugs. We can even say that the whole “Chemical Imbalance Theory” was created in an effort to market these drugs. We can also say that anti-depressants are actually a marketing name for stimulants and anti-psychotic are actually a marketing name for depressants.
Three types of drugs:

Narcotics: (OxyContin, Vicodin, Percocet), also known as analgesics or opiods are drugs that are prescribed for moderate to severe physical pain. They are abused because of their euphoric, sedating, and numbing effects. Narcotic abuse causes tolerance and dependence and the withdrawal symptoms are severe.

Depressants: (Xanax, Valium, Librium) are drugs that are prescribed to treat anxiety and sleep disorders. They are abused because of their sedating properties. With abuse, depressants cause tolerance and dependence and the withdrawal symptoms can be severe.

Stimulants: Ritalin, Dexedrine, Meridia) are prescribed to treat ADD/ADHD and other conditions such as asthma. They are abused because of their energizing and euphoric effects. Stimulants do not generally cause tolerance or dependence but abuse is associated with hostility and paranoia. There is also great risk for cardiovascular failure and seizures.

-Ritalin: Prescribed for individuals (usually children) who have attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), has a high potential for abuse and produces many of the same effects as cocaine or amphetamine. http://www.streetdrugs.org

Psychiatrists are not common people. Psychiatrists have a different point of view than the rest of society:
“A recent survey in the UK found that 83 per cent of psychiatrists thought that ECT( Electroconvulsive therapy) was more likely to be beneficial than harmful – this figure fell to 69 per cent of mental health nurses and 14 per cent of psychologists.”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/electroconv...

So how come Psychiatrists have such a different point of view than Psychologists and the rest of society?
Whereas Psychologists confronts the human mind or psyche and understand that each person behaviors is an evolution of his own personal experiences. Psychiatrists are unable to confront the human psyche; Psychiatrists don’t care about your emotional issues or traumas; Psychiatrists only deal with man as an object, a biomechanical machine incapable of controlling his mental processes.

How else can you explain Psychiatry barbaric treatments? Like Electroconvulsive therapy, Lobotomies, strait jackets and severe drugging of patients. For them you are not a person; for them you are only a biomechanical machine. People that join the Psychiatric profession do it in order to learn to deal with man in a mechanical way.

The real role of Psychiatry in society is that they are psyche executioners of society. Whenever a person doesn’t conform with the behavioral rules of society they can be sent to a Psychiatrist. And the Psychiatrist enforces the person to conform by the use of multiple control mechanisms; these mechanisms are drugs, electroshock, lobotomies and incarceration (When you are committed into a Psychiatric hospital against your will you are being incarcerated and your freedom is taken away from you. After this the patients are so scared that they will do anything in order to get out of that place.).
The behavioral rules of society are clearly expressed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders published by the American Psychiatric Association.

Why do psych meds cause physical problems?

%26 then people think we're passing out on purpose for a show for attention when we're not. It doesn't even have to be a panic attack.
Answer:
no drug is perfect. any medicine will work on different systems, as we don't have the knowledge or the technology for perfect treatment of a single problem, whether physical or mental.
Side effects!
They change the chemical make up of ur body so of course theres going to be mental and sometimes physical changes. Also, you have to take into account getting the right dose and side effects...
Drugs have a certain purpose. Drugs that do something in the brain is going to do something that may not be liked like cause fainting or something because the drug doesn't have a mind of its own, it only has one purpose.
Different meds can cause different effects on different people. What you need to do is look up your medicine and see what the side effects are. Then you need to talk to your doctor. Mild side effects can be tolorated, but something like that is pretty serious. You may need your medicine changed.
If you are passing out from your psych meds, something is wrong. They're not supposed to make you pass out. Talk with the doctor who prescribed them for you ASAP. Good luck.

Why do people with tourette's shout out swear words and not just "egg" or "grass"?

Answer:
it really depends on the person. i have a form of tourette's were i tick my neck , head and shoulders and that also comes with a heaping side helping of OCD. i dont yell out cures words. i tick and compulsively do things, like i crack my knuckles CONSTANTLY and i roll my eyes alot and blink alot. you just cant help it.
What is tourettes? I don't like labels, it really isn't understanding the condition. Maybe they just want to swear.
Maybe because there getting pissed off that every other word is interupted with a disturbance.
not all people with tourettes shout obscenities (coprolalia), that's actually a very specific type, and it's not common at all. most people with tourettes have a physical tic..myself, i shrug my shoulders and blink my eyes really hard, i've had that tic since i'm a little girl. you really can't help it most of the time, it's even harder if you're under stress or if you're worrying about something.
My brother never shouts out swear words. He says things like "kek kek kek" or just random words or a random phrase. Sometimes he kind of barks/yips. And he jerks sometimes. It's totally obvious it's a neurological problem to anyone who sees him do these things. I will say, it scares the heck out of me when he yells "NO!" or something like that when I am driving. I think he saw something I didn't!
Not all people do swear.I have Tourettes and dont swear any different then anyone else.

Why do people take anti-depressants?

When one of the most common side effects is depression (!) The FDA wants to add to a warning that these medications increase the risk of "suicidal thoughts and behavior" in young adults, in addition to adolescents. "Antidepressant medications benefit many patients, but it is important that doctors and patients are aware of the risks," said Dr. Steven Galson, the FDA's drugs chief.

I've known people that have taken these types of medications- seems like everyone is "bi-polar" nowadays- prescribed by general practitioners with no associated therapy and infrequent follow-up, and while they reduce the frequency of mood swings- when they bottom out while on the medication, they really bottom out! Seems remarkably similar to the way cocaine was pushed by doctors and used as a cure-all a century ago... until it was determined that the cure was worse than the ailment.
Answer:
I know from personal experience, anti-depressants can really be wonderful for some people, stress the word some.its like everything in life, some things are great for some people...and some things arent. anti-depressants helped a very good friend of mine, he is like a different person, its great. I took a mild depressant awhile ago and it was horrible, it made everything worse...I am on the fence with antidepressants, I think they are good, but they arent great either
life sux, deal with it.
f*** pills =]
I had a problem for years with anti-depressants making me worse, then some angel of mercy of a psychiatrist told me to start taking anticonvulsants with them and BOOM! I felt a lot better.

Just because they can sometimes make you feel wose doesn't mean they always will if you figure out a way to make 'em work a little differently. Finding the right med (or, in my case, the right combination of meds) can be very tricky.

Why do people sometimes cry when they are happy??

We normally associate crying with Sadness, or is crying just an expression of emotion
Answer:
I think crying is just related to being overwhelmed by emotion
Crying is an overflow of emotion. Usually it happens when you're very sad. Sometimes though, when you're happy or very angry. Just the body's way of ridding itself from all that extra emotional energy I s'pose.
Either if it's something good or bad that happens, you can still cry. Sometimes something sooo great happens that you don't believe it so you get overwhelmed and cry.
Yup, your right on the button there, it is just a sign of emotion, whether sad or happy.
We Cry When Were Happy Because Your Emotions Sort Of OverLoad And Have To Release Something So You Cry!
I Think So Anyway, Something Like That Anyway!!
crying is the expression [not the only one] for a very strong emotion. that's why people cry when they are VERY sad or VERY happy ;o)
exception! women when we are waiting or have period! we can even cry with advertisements on TV ;o)
emotion controls both
Its all down to emotions.
Its called TEARS OF HAPPINESS...cause you aint been so happy for a hell of a long time and emotions take over and that makes you cry.
Crying is an expression of emotions be it sadness or happiness.
Expression of emotion for sure. usually if im sad, im angry, no tears, unless someone has died. I cry more with emotions such as weddings, births and other proud moments, especially for my own children!
It's funny because you can be laughing your head off at one moment and then burst into tears the next. It happens to kids quite a lot, I guess, because they are young and fresh, discovering lots of different emotions that are totally new to them and don't yet know how to control and handle them.
cause they feel like it
They are very emotional expressive people.
I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW! i cry almost every time i laugh, even if it's not that funny! It is so embarassing!
okay!

Why do people sleep? Why can`t we continuesly stay awake?

Answer:
Nobody Knows that for sure, But we do need it.
Its important for repairing and resting the muscles and nerves that get strained during the day. It could also be used to transfer the days experiences from the short term memory into the long term memory. some people think its also evolved as a way to keep us out of harms way for some of the time. anyway, itld be great if we didnt have to sleep, but it is nice all the same.
cause there ain't enough good programmes on to keep us awake.lol. people have to sleep as it the only time that the brain gets to fully rest. there is a way of staying awake for a few nights, but im told its illegal, lol xx
I don't know why don't you try it LOL!

Well, our bodies and mids need to re-charge and repair and build energy up again!
Our body is like a rechargeable battery. Once we run out of power, we have to recharge our energy for the next day. No buddy is like the Energizer Bunny. Its just how it is.
We need 2 recharge our batteries, but i wish they wud invent a different form of sleeping pills that do the oposit 2 the1 we all know about! U cud take a full 12 hours tablet and u feel as if uve ad a whole nights sleep or u cud take a lil cat nap tablet n u feel as tho uve ad a quick snooze!

U wud get so much more done if we didnt need 2 sleep!
the body needs time to rest and repair...all of it!!

you couldnt leave a computer or electricalk appliance working all the time it would burn out and break...but we're much more complicated
lol...who said u cant stay awake continuosly...u can keep ur self awake for over a week if u want to, u dont have to follow what everyone else is doing...u can do it!!..determination is power, and power leads to Greatness....and yea when u finally decide to sleep be prepared to have a sound one in some coffin some 6 ft under the ground.4 real
Because at some point you just get sick of being yourself and you need the chance to escape into dreams or nothingness to rebuild your tolerance for existance.
are you nuts
if you want to live in a world full of miserable people, then be my guest, but that just doesn't make any sense, that's how we cleanse our bodies, and recharge our energy. it also heals wounds, illness, pains, and helps you focus through out the day.
you'd become a zombie if you stayed up ALL the time, you would look pale, dark rings around your eyes and they will be red, dry, and itchy and that gets annoying after so long.
you might also find it hard to speak properly, and your sight will be all blurry, and you could possibly hallucinate.
and major headaches will come into to play also.
basically you'd be felling blah, and be a total wreck, concentration will make you feel sick and dizzy, there is so many wrong things that come along without sleep
and a lot of health risks to. you need to clean the everyday toxins that enters your body, from food, outside, work office, and from other people that you come in close contact with.
so
yeah
but it's your body so and you asked a question, and i responded, lol.

good luck hun
I forget who said this. It may have been on a T-shirt.

"Consciousness is that unfortunate period between naps."
.

Why do people sabotage themselves?

like if they know they have to be somewhere on time, they will wait to the last minute to go?
Answer:
They are happier where they are and do not want to go to the place they are supposed to be at.
This form of "mini risk taking" may provide the person with an adrenaline rush that they find stimulating. In addition, folks who are chronically late typically "earn" their repuation for tardiness, and have little reason to change (may even come to see their chronic lateness as a personality trait/something that makes them unique or lovable). This is particularly true if the chronic lateness is shrugged off as "oh, that's just Charlie for you...always late" and basically accepted and expected among his/her peers/social group/colleagues.
Some people are natural procrastinators, or it is someplace they did not really want to go to in the first place. I know late people are a pet peve of mine also... join the club.
that is called procrastination. im not sure "sabotage" is the right word to describe that type of behaviour. several reasons why people feel unmotivated and thus engage in counter productiveness might be that they are suffering from a mental or physical illness that causes stress on the mind or they are abusing drugs or the person may simply just not care about keeping up with the demands of the rest of the world

Why do people make themself depress?

So i have this problem, because I can never stop making myself depress. I have been depress for long time, I am thinking I am getting addicted to it, but it is ruining my life. Even when something doesn't have to involve me, I get depres over it. I want to stop doing this, but it won't stop. I know no one else is making me feel this way, it's me. Which is bad, becasue sooner or later I am going to do something I am going to regret. I sound soo pathetic...lucky for me I get to go on Anti-depressent, but I've read they increase suicidal Thoughts/actions. = (
Answer:
i hear ya sister i have been depressed for 6 years and nothing worked for me i actually forgot the feeling of happiness i can't remember the last time i was really happy. its a cycle i feel my depression make me hate myself in return i punish myself by making myself more depressed .. etc
for suicidal thoughts , i already attempt suicide twice and im not sure how close the third but what stopping me is my mother she is what i love the most and i don't want to break her heart i prefer mine broken over her
Go talk to your doctor sweetie!
your not making yourself depressed you have deprssion and anti depressants can only increase suicidal thoughts if you go off them to quicly and its still not garanteed to happen then either
forget yourself and focus on something useful
Yes this can happen in certain medications that doctors prescribe. I believe they increase the suicidal thoughts because when you take one you feel good and afterwards you come down off of the pill and it makes you even more depressed. From personal experiance.

What i suggest you do is start going to counseling. Figure out what the real problem is.

To further answer your question. I think that people make themselves depressed because their lives arent exactly on the right track. Also when your growing, your hormones are just up and down and it just makes you stressed. Believe me i know! Its hard but talking to someone about it could really make a differance, like a friend or counsler. If you want you can talk to me! Email me!
yeah I know what it is like I suffer from depression and I still haven't found out my cause or why.
I simply couldn't walk away from you and another couple of answers I saw here! The young girl who is living for her mom reminds me of someone I once knew so well; (it was me!)
However, I have been tremendously happy now for many years and I will, no I must, share it with you now...
The whole system in which we live in is conducive to making people so diseased (or ill at ease!) and due to the fact that the FDA for "food and drug association!! Can we believe our ears? What should food and drug have to do with one another? Strange bed-fellows indeed! Don't you think? The sad truth is that they want us to need to be just ill enough to need their drugs and keep us on the list of the comfortably numb as it keeps them rich... Did you know that there are more of them at the Senate than there are senators and they fill the pockets of our politicians to get their laws accepted. Once we realize the enormity of this situation, we begin to take our own lives in our own hands, which instantly gives us that feeling of "control" over something we had taken for granted too long that we had no control over... and we almost begin to feel better instantly. Take nothing more with "fructose" in it and check the ingredients on all products in the store shelves before you purchase them... No white sugars either but fructose is much worst! The less the processed foods you will eat, the faster you will heal... This goes for everyone you know (human and otherwise!) as the whole system is geared to make money on our backs and at our expense... Take your life back by doing a little homework about these things and if you can get your hands on Kevin Trudeau's books "Natural Cures They Don't Want You To Know About" could be a good start! He knows this "outfit" quite well from personal experience and once you become involved and feel that sense of "power" in your own life, you will be amazed at the results. Happiness dear one, never was found in a pill but in being allowed to be the wonderful human being that our Creator intended and still intends for us to be, in His image, which is full of love, wisdom, power and justice and once you begin to sort through the truths from the lies of this world which the small "g" god of 2 Corinthians 4:4 loves to blind us all with in the name of all things evil. A great way to start feeling great, would be to slowly or gradually get yourself off of the the poison you have been on and drink at least ten fresh glasses of water a day; eat natural! as natural as possible in this day and age anyway! get yourself a natural supplement of necessary vitamins such as "Life" and not "Centrum" which still shows the name on the bullet when it comes out of you as it won't dissolve and contains dangerous vitamins in their daily supplement anyhow! (the joys of free speech!! I tell you!) LOL
Once you begin to do these things and practise living in the moment you are in; watch the ideas you put in your head as it is the most powerful computer ever created (the brain) and will give you whatever it is that you program it with... The more positive and accurate truth you put in it, the better it will be able to serve you like the veritable pro that it is as our Creator did such a fantastic job of it, if only we didn't blow it all with the free-will He so generously blesses us with. Indeed, we aren't robots and are made to look to our God for help and assistance in how to cultivate the wonderful fruits of His spirit (active force!) listed at Galatians 5:21-22 and to worship Him in the manner that is pleasing and acceptable to Him in spirit and truth (John 4:24;) John 6:44: and 8:44 are worth a check too! and the peace of God that excels all thought will be with you at last. Philippians 4:7
Once you begin on your journey to discover the real truth of life and what the true purpose of that true God really was and still is (as He made all the necessary provision 2,000 years ago or 2 days ago to Him) and you will see these exciting times with your own eyes which will be here soon. The sad fact is that we have an impostor god who did all that he could for 6,000 years to blind us from the real wonderful life awaiting us all as he goes around like a roaring lion seeking to devour us all out of the divine promises guaranteed to us by the true and eternal living God, who cannot lie as seen in Hebrews 6:18 and Titus 1:2 and in many other places in the one and only book claiming divine inspiration from that one and only true God who knows from the beginning the finale and who is so wise as to have known from the start how He had to handle the Accuser of our brothers in the faith of that One who will soon make everything just GREAT! for you, me, and all of our loved ones; even the dead ones will be resurrected in a perfect body and a wonderfully cleaned-up earth which is described as the new earth and the new heaven from which our only government of peace will sit, with Christ himself as King... along with His chosen priests and judges, starting with his apostles but not John the Baptist (it is so written) as he died before the divine ransom sacrifice of the Christ's death could be given to our heavenly Father was offered to Him in the heavens, 40 days after the death of Jesus! I know that you can get out of this depression and if you follow just parts of these healthy solutions, you will do it! Whatever you ask our heavenly Father in the name of His son Jesus, He will be glad to give you and bless you with as Jesus himself told us that no father on earth would give a rock to his son if this one asked him for bread so how much more will our heavenly Father of love, wisdom, power and justice, give of his blessings to those approching Him in sincerety and spirit and truth! Take care sweetheart! You are loved and I pray this day that our Eternal God, whose name you sould find at Psalms 83:18 (doesn't everyone and everything have a name? Why shouldn't He? He even told Jesus to make His name known and Jesus told Him that he did and would keep on making it known) You'll need to start doing some homework yourself now!) yes! I pray that He will open your eyes and heart to the wonderful good news of what is soon to be yours and mine, where we will even have the honour to meet one of these days, as once death is done away with as promised througout the scriptures, we will all get to know our brothers and sisters on the planet... eventually (common sense!) and that His spirit (active force) which is what He used to create the whole universe! will guide you to His word and to the cultivation of His super healthy fruits at Galatians 5:21-22 and watch out for your soul that it doens't get too addicted to these wonderfully soul-filling fruits of His spirit and that you will take it nice and easy as you cultivate perhaps one a day! and do yourself another great favour by checking out the meaning of love according to our heavenly Father, which you will find at 1 Corinthians 13: 4 to 7. Please accept my love also! as it is not always easy to be as happy as we could be when seeing another soul in pain... May your pain become a thing of the past real soon! Isaiah 65:13, 17; 2 Peter 3:13... And always in the name of His son, our King and savior, I pray these things for you and all those suffering from what this world labels "depression" when in actuality it is nothing more than extreme sadness at not benefitting fully from our Creator's loving provisions as we have been too blinded by Satan's (see even the false god who tried to tempt even Jesus, in Matthew chapter four! has a name... and before that, it was Lucifer! and he is the one who mainly tries to erase the true God's name from existence! but just won't succeed as his battles are just that, whereas the final war is always won by the Father who is so much more powerful and wise and just and loves us so much in spirit and truth and loyalty!) Without Him, whose name in Hebrew was YHWH as there is no vowel in the Hebrew language..., not much is possible in this old world, but with Him, all things are possible... even an everlasting life of joy, happiness and peace in a perfect world, which is nothing less than I pray for you all! Thank you for reading this but don't just read once. Try to put it on hard copy so that you can visit these scriptures again and again as they will surely do more for you than any colored pill even could! I promise you that! Matthew 5:37; James 5:12
