Why can some people remember what they dreamed and others can not?

Answer:
Everyone dreams every night during REM sleep. Dreams only last about 30 seconds despite how long they may feel while they take place. To remember a dream, you have to begin recalling what was dreamed immediately after waking up. After about 15 seconds, the memory begins to disappear. The reason some dreams are remembered is because they are significant enough for you to begin to recall them right after waking up. Sometimes we do this subconsciously. If this occurs, you can recall most of it at a later time.
Another way to think about it, is to try to explain why those weird unexplainable dreams make perfect sense while you are sleeping. Even after snoozing that alarm, it is possible to continue that weird dream several times after being awaken. I guarantee that once you wake up fully, you remember some of the dream, but by now, that weird dream that made perfect sense before, is just a bunch of non sense once you are awake and try to recall it.

My personal belief is it's all in how in tune you are with your mind and body. someome that knows their body and can pay attention to it remembers someone that just blows through life doesn't.

I've often wondered about this, as my husband seldom remembers his dreams and I often do.

I think like anything else, it's about what we CHOOSE to remember. Some people are focused on their dreams because they are interested in them and their interpretations. Others are not so interested, so they only remember them when they are exceptionally vivid.

My psychology teacher said that if the dream is followed by deep sleep it is harder if not impossible to remember it. This is why dreams that you dream right before waking up are the most memorable.
